Hike Description:
Starting out from the "Seekarhaus", follow the marked trail which makes a right at the trail marker. After a hairpin turn, head up the hillside to the north. When the wide path branches off to the right, we hike along the small trail uphill to the left (marked). It is a bit steep, but it quickly ends on the Wurmsattel plateau. Now keep right and walk north-east over good terrain across alpine pastures. If the weather is clear, don't forget to take in the amazing views of the Dachstein Group to the north-west!
After a short walk we come to the idyllic "Kaulquappensee". Now the trail "greases", so to speak, the big alpine basin to the left. We meet up with a path which takes us between boulders up to the Klammlsattel. Here we again encounter countless alpine flowers! Down below the rocks to the left is the Grundlsee, while in the canyon on our right, if we are very quiet, we might even be able to observe marmot.
Soon we
get to the place where we can catch sight of the Oberhüttensee in its
peaceful magnificence. Here the stream flows partially into the lake,
while on the far side it babbles eastwards down into Weisspriachtal
valley. The idyllically situated Oberhütte is an inviting spot for a
rest and refreshments. Your hosts, Franz and Julia, await you with a
wonderful selection of homemade tidbits.
Fir more experienced hikers there is an opportunity - after the some 90-minute hike down to the"Vögeialm" in Forstautal valley - to climb back up to the Wurmsattel plateau via the "Klamml". For the big tour you should calculate on about 6 hours total. For the shorter variant to the Oberhütte and back, you can reckon with about 4 hours.
